Tools and Techniques

While working in any profession or discipline, you learn some tools and techniques that can be used across multiple disciplines. These are called transferrable skills. The tools and techniques that I learned and used while performing physics research and while Working in the IT Industry include the following:

  • Programming:  J2EE ( Java, Java Servlets, Enterprise Java Beans), XML, HTML, CGI/PERL, JavaScript, C, C++, FORTRAN, MySQL, and ORACLE.
  • Web. Apache Web Server, Tomcat.
  • OS: UNIX ( Solaris, and Linux), Windows (95/98, XP, Windows server 2000/2003).
  • Presentation/schedule tools: MS Project, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
  • Authoring tools: MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft Visio

Yet, as a bonus, the most Important tools learned and earned during this period are:

  • Project Management
  • Leadership skills
  • Research techniques

    cyberlancet Founding Engineering manager 2001-2002. A video on demand startup.

    DReam Logic

    Dream Logic,Inc., Burlingame, CA.

    		Founding Director of Software Development 2000-2001. Built software technologies to facilitate delivery of data on the Internet.

    MP3.com, San Diego, CA.

    		 Founding Director of Engineering 1999-2000. By using the Internet and web technologies, revolutionized the way the music is distributed.

    Weborder Inc., Los Altos, CA.

    		Founding Director of Engineering 1999. Developed one of the first e-commerce engine to facilitate selling goods on the web.
