Unity Behind Diversity

The key to success in education is unity behind diversity, which can be realized in three steps:

  1. Learn multiple individual concepts about a topic, which in general are different from one another.
  2. Identify relationships between apparently different concepts by exploring the connections among them.
  3. Based on the relationships among different concepts, build the big picture of the topic.

Identify the unity or a unified theme or principle represented by the big picture. This process of exploring unity behind diversity can be applied at different levels such as among multiple concepts related to a topic, among multiple topics, among multiple subjects, and so on. In other words, unity behind diversity can be sought at different levels of complexity.

Education

Paul has a cross disciplinary and cross continental eduactional experience. He started his learning journey with an earthen lamp and a bamboo pen in a dark corner of a farm house in a remote village of India, and made his way to the largest laboratory in the world, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Mecca of particle physics near Geneva, Switzerland. Along the way, he earned a bunch of degrees (a Ph.D., an M.Phil., three Master's, and a B.Sc.) in physical sciences, math, and computing.
